Oscar unexpectedly and rapidly intensified into a hurricane on Saturday as it moved through the southwestern Atlantic Ocean. The storm formed as one of the smallest hurricanes ever recorded in terms of its wind field, according to data collected by the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).
